May Wheat Harvest

Finally took the time to upload the combining video from last weekend. Internet was so slow tonight that it felt like it took almost as long as it did to harvest the 70 acre field. This was the field of wheat that stayed out all winter and was flattened to the ground pretty bad.

Hope the link works. I can't even check it out as the youtube page won't open for me anymore tonight. Rural internet is beyond slow tonight. Took over two hours to upload about two and a half minutes of video. :(

58 pound wheat has become a bit light here after the past few years when it was not uncommon to see 64 pound bushels. Like in September 2018. We went from one of the best crop years ever to the worst in 2019. Low quality, poor weather, high moisture. Off to a good start this year .

Thanks for the video. As Bruce commented, I too, really liked running a combine in the times when swathing was common and every combine had a pickup unit. My helping was on our farm in North Dakota in the 1950s and 1960s.

Did this wheat go directly to market or are you able to do test weight right on your farm?

Hi Ron. Combining, picking swaths or straight is fun as long as everything works and weather co-operates. I have a measuring cup designed for testing bushel weights. Used to be we would take our samples to the local elevator for moisture and other tests like that but as they disappeared we had to become self sufficient. I bought the good "elevator type" tester and scale and somebody gave me the measuring cup as a gift.

Have you ever tried a spinner on that steering wheel? I started using one on my combine and really like it.
