Ammonia tank

I was trying to sweep on some anhydrous fertilizer (hadn’t used the
old auction Flexking sweep for fertilizing before) and kept having to
adjust the continental regulator higher than the chart showed.

Finally, I was standing there checking all the sweep nozzles watching
them blow when all of a sudden - and on its own - the applicator
manifold pressure jumped around and then went from about 25 psi to
45 or so and the sweeps were all blowing a lot harder then.

I wondered if the internal excess flow valve had been sticking and
finally turned loose (though I had opened and closed the valve
several times slowly before) - but the tank then applied about as
expected after that.

I went to refill it thinking it would be fine - but it seems to be pretty low
application pressure again even though it was hotter temps today.

Does anyone have any ideas on such a flow problem? Or could it be
something I’m not thinking of? If I can get this tank empty I’ll just get
another one after this.

Thanks,
Howard

Does the flow regulator have a filter screen in it. Sometimes screen can get clogged.
Be careful to close tank valve and relieve pressure.

IF there is a screen the easiest way to clean them is with a small propane torch. Vent screen, or wash in water first then heat with torch. The crude will dry and flake off with a brush then. If it is over applying the diaphragm went bad with a pinhole in it. Also vent good taking apart. Let things set over night open if possible is best. Anhydrous is only as dangerous as the guy using it.

Please be careful. I had a good friend killed (took two years to die though) because he failed to relieve pressure while working on his ammonia tank/applicator and burned his lungs beyond repair. He died at about age 55.
