9N knocked out of alignment

This is the second time I have hit my front rim against something and knocked the alignment out. I searched years ago when I did it and found that somehow you can disconnect the steering rods and move the steering mechanism to the extreme and then be able somehow to adjust it. but I forgot how to do it. Can someone steer me (excuse the pun) to an old post or explain to me how this goes. I don't see it in the manual.

You do not have to disconnect the steering, just jack up the front. Then you can move the wheels go to the extreame left or right, don't remember. You may be looking at new steering sector gears soon. joe

I moved them to the extreme right and or left but I can't get one to move for adjustment without the other moving too......I don't get it ..........I did this before but I can't figure it out this time
