Re -sealed and the new seat cushion on had to modify my snap on external snap ring pliers to get the big ring off the old bearing quill I?ve ?adjusted? them lots of times in the 18 years I?ve had them

Have you ever seen or used a K-D snap ring plier, The one with a holding ratchet, between the two handles, but looks like you got it under control,with what u got!
 
So why did you replace the bearing quill, doesn't look bad in the pic? I just had to replace one that had a chunk missing by the internal snap ring groove, have another pto to reseal here shortly for a friend.
 
Aren't you uptown? ;-). Looks a heckuva lot easier on a guys patience than using 2 screwdrivers and having to look everywhere for the snap ring. It's always good to replace the guide I've never taken 1 apart yet that isn't grooved.
 
I can usually manage to get em off one way or another but then it usually ruins them especially big ones like this
