JD 6300 pto stopped

Not a real old tractor but old enough.
I was mowing dykes. Everything going fine when the pto suddenly shuts off. The knob was still up in the on position. I tried it agin a few times and it came back on for a few second then off again.

I figured fuse or relay. I changed the fuse that shows the only image with a pto. It was fine anyway.

I swapped a few of the relays around that were similar... I don?t think that would have any affect and it didn?t.

So next cover off and I find the PTO module. Is this my likely problem?
I checked the power coming into and out of the switch and it seems fine.

Any ideas or thoughts????

Thanks. Grant

In addition to what Rock said, is your seat switch (Operator Presence Switch) hooked up and working or bypassed?

There's a speed pickup sensor in the casting ahead of the actual PTO shaft, when you turn on the PTO that needs to send a PTO speed signal to the PTO control box you've found or the "box" will shut he PTO control valve off in a couple of seconds.

If the sensor or the wires to it fail the PTO won't operate.

Thanks for the input guys. I will check the main switch again and look into the seat switch ... but I have a feeling that is bit passed.

I think I saw something in the fuse box saying speed delay.
I?ll get into it again in the morning and post back.

Thanks again. Grant

This is assume is the speed pickup sensor you mentioned.
I blew it off with air this morning.... covers in grease and dirt. Wiggled it and turn on tractor and engaged switch. Pto started turning and was operating faster and slower with throttle.
Did this a couple times.

Came back out after coffee to put covers back on and it won?t work again.

If I take out the sensor connector and run a wire between them should it run?
Or should I just replace sensor.
Anything else I should try??

Thanks again for the advice. Grant

I?m glad this provided entertainment as well as education. You and I alike BTee. Bad spellers and big thumbs on small phone.

On a side note I think I have the problem narrowed down to the main switch.... we will see.
