Bought a dyno

I have had JD Seller's dyno here for probably a couple of years, he bought it from one of Old's neighbors. He bought a bigger one, and did not need this one, I am excited to get it. I will automate it now so I can load in a test profile and make a super tune for MH44.

David G,

I read almost all your posts. I find what you were (are) doing, and documenting your work, fascinating.

Thanks for posting, and I'm eager to see what you've come up with.

I have a M&W one here. About the same deal,I borrowed it and the owner bought a bigger one. Someone else had borrowed it and allowed it to freeze and cracked the coils. I have it apart but my radiator shop in Dubuque went out of business and now not sure where to take it.Any good reasonable priced shops in your area? Tom

funny you mention dynos, I have been working on one since 4:30 this morning. It will not hold constant load over 5000hp.

they require several hundred gallon of water a min. each dyno has its own 4 stage vertical turbine pump and a large heat xchanger. Its running a 95 liter with Cummins.

Were you taking radiators to F+S ?.....I see they are having an auction of equipment this week. I think Driveline Inc. does radiators. They did a Case 530 gas tank for me a few years ago. Jim Riedel is the owner......good guy.....unless you try impress him with how really smart you are.....while he is really busy !!!

David,
What kind of dyno and what strategy for automation are you thinking?

I ve been thinking of doing this with my A&W 375 for consistency sake. Basically to keep the rate of load change the same from run to run. I already have a data logger setup I worked up on it already. HP on the fly, as well as logging directly to a SD card on demand.

This is a follow up:

I have talked a few times with Mike, he has automated the logging, I want to add to that.

The dyno has a big wheel on it that controls a valve, it takes quite a few turns to make a difference. I plan to put an Arduino CPU with stepper motor so I can control the turns. I also plan to make a jig for the throttle so I can control that also with a stepper.

The inputs will be run into the Arduino and will create a CSV file like Mikes.

I have never done anything on either the arduino or raspberry pi platform, but i have had both of them sitting around for a couple years, anyway, with the arduino, will you be able to put some sort of an hmi on it for setpoints, real time data curves etc etc?
