PTO Generator

Look what followed me home!! A guy on Facebook posted a
pto generator for $150 . He said it had a bearing out and he
had bought a stand by system and didn?t need it anymore.
Went and got it today, 340 miles round trip. For $50 he sold
me the big transfer switch that he had used with it. Now to get
it apart and get a bearing put in. Not sure if something is
missing or not, there are 4 bolt holes next to the bearing but
nothing for them to go through. Bearing is on the front of the
generator next to the gearbox. Chris

You got a good buy! We bought a 40kv in '99, as an upgrade from a 25kv. If I remember right, it was over $2500.

Katolight makes very good units. I think they are the best you can buy.I may have a manual on that one. What transfer switch did you get. What four bolts are missing

You're a thief!! LOLOLOL Around here a good PTO unit is
minimum $1000-$2000 or more. You got a great buy!!

The middle picture between the gearbox and the generator. There is a thin piece kinda like a gasket with holes in the corners. Here?s the transfer switch

That looks like a drive plate connection. Those bolts will need to be replaced. For it to work.I will see what I can find on it and the switch.

Katolight, use to ship them all over the world suppose to be one of the best but not sure if there in business anymore. They were made in Mankato Minnesota.

I have a request into Ronk. They are still around.Still working on Katolight. They were sold to a German firm several years ago. I have a request into them. For any help they can give.

You got an incredible deal on that pto unit. I worked at kato light and the after company for almost 20 years. I built pto units for a number of years. Yes, very good units. They stopped building them 3-4 years ago. Good luck with it.

Can you tell me if they have stopped making them.I sent a request to a German company. That showed to have bought them. But I am not sure of any help from them.

Billy, the company that was formerly Katolight is now called MTU Onsite Energy. They are still in Mankato Minnesota. MTU was owned by a German company called Tognum. Tognum owns Detroit Diesel. Tognum was consumed by Rolls Royce Power Systems from the UK. This is not the fancy car manufacturing company, but a massive power generation company with over 11,000 employees worldwide. I hope this helps you out somewhat. Kow Farmer Kurt

Billy, I was still working there when they quit building pto units. The new corporate company didn?t want to build such little products anymore. So they discontinued production completely and sold everything. MTU only wanted large genset customers and lost a lot of business with very good dealers after the new company took over. It was very sad to see how such large global companies can care less about the people and customers that built their company over the years with such loyalty only to be treated so poorly. I could talk for a long time about this. Kow Farmer Kurt

Sounds like what Cummins did. When they bought Onan. They destroyed a fine company. Now they sell junk on the smaller units.

Thanks I will try MTU.

That sounds like the Tele-Com units. You couldn't keep up with who owned who.I remember one site in Dallas. They changed owners so fast. There was a different name on each door
