Frozen corn?

Driving through southern Mn today and there is a lot of frost burned corn. Hard frost burned and yellow. Most is two leaves or less. What is the height where the growing part is out of the ground? I know it can be up some and come back, just wondering how tall it is. Many thousands of acres at the two leaf stage all yellow. This field is smaller than most and I think will be ok.

Growing point is underground until the 5 leaf stage. Most of the corn out of the ground now has a yellow tint to it. It needs some sunlight and heat to green it up.

I've noticed the corn around Terre Haute isn't as green as the grass next to the road. A week or so ago we had below freezing temperatures and few frosts.

Around here, I have seen corn survive 18 degrees until the time it gets about 10 inches tall.
Depends how cold the soil is and how deep it froze.
Clemson had silage corn froze at about 10 inches tall one year and turned yellow as a JD wheel.
It came back and did fine.

Mark you are right on that even as far south as here in Tennessee. Have 5 week old corn that is just pure yellow, cold wet rainy weather for days. They are calling for 80 tomorrow but if we do not get some hot sun before long not going to be good.

Can?t help but here is some corn next to a pasture I have cows on near Elgin, Texas and for you guys in Illinois it?s not said the same way y?all say it.

What part of southern MN? Near New Ulm?

1. Yellow corn is just too cold to get the roots to grow and the plant to process the nutrients, doesn?t mean it actually froze.

2. Growing point stays under until about the time you see the 5th leaf.

3. 2 leaves freezing might not hurt too bad. 3-4 leaves sticking out and they freeze, shrivel, and the plant try?s to grow out through the middle. But the dead froze leaves tighten up and buggy whip the new growth, and the whole plant gets messed up. Hurts yields a lot. Been there......
