Bought a tractor.

Well I bought a tractor, it's a 460 gas I paid 1,800 for it. Runs great, t/a works and transmission is strong. It was 56 miles from me, so it took me 4 1/2 hrs to drive it home in 28 degree (farenheit) weather. I kinda wish it had a cab, but that's what I get for not wanting to wait for a trailer. It's not as big as I need but still a nice tractor and a good start. Now I just need to put a three point on it. It's a 59, but was built halfway thru the year and had the better rear end.
Oh and did I mention the lights work too!

Nice looking 460. Even though it's got the big long hood, all the goodies like LPTO, live hydraulics, TA, etc, just remember that's a couple of generations away from an H with two more cylinders. Don't expect it to be able to do as much work as fast as its big brothers. It'll get the work done, just not as fast.

Garrett..... I think you picked picked out a really nice first tractor! Should be very realiable if you drove it 56 miles. Can't say I'd ever do that. You must have wanted it home bad. Makes for a great story. Wingnut

Looks good and should be a good tractor for a smaller acreage. I would get a muffler for it. Many years ago I thought a 4020 and a 720 Deere were cool with strait pipes and maybe that is why I today have tendency to think people mumble.LOL Tom

I have always thought 460 560 IH tractors were good looking tractors next to all red 400 with stainless letters and numbers
this is from bleed green and yellow man.
a couple of weeks ago Sue B went with me to look at a 630 she told her Dad Virg and I will be bring a pizza over after Virg looks at a John Deere tractor. Gene said Virg sure likes those John Deere tractors Sue B said is there anything else to which Gene laughed.

Congrats on your new ride, looks great.

However you need to "embellish" your ride home a little...... lol

Didn't you have to outrun a prairie fire, drive around a flooded out bridge, and have someone pour coffee on your hands to unfreeze them from the steering wheel when you got home?

By the time you have grandkids, you will have this mastered.

Enjoy, hope it brings you many, many great years. Larry

Get a Cummins out of a school bus, send the pump to the pump doctor to get the fuel delivery doubled, and go to the tractor pulls!!

I'm not much of an IH guy but I thought the 460s and 560s looked good. I thought I red somewhere that the 460s and 560s both had recalls for the rear end but 560 was the only one that was troubled. I also remember reading something about them lacking lugging ability because of a shorter stroke. Maybe it was just someone's opinion I don't remember and have no personal experience with them. It still looks nice and sounds like you got a good price for it.

Burrrrrrr, got a chill reading your post.

That looks like a pretty good tractor for the money. Does it have 2 pt fast hitch on it?

You're funny Larry. Got a chuckle out of that one. The eight point buck I got last fall while he was running in a field keeps running faster and gets farther away every time I tell the story with my wife. I do it just to get the eye roll. She's cute.

Lots of 460 and 560 tractors around here. Mostly 560s but a lot of 460s too. Far more than any other brand. They have done a lot of work over the years.

Thanks again to everyone who commented. I will be putting a muffler on it at some point and I might post about the ride home some time too.
