kubota bt1100 hoe cyl leaking

year 2003, boom cyl is leaking, bought seal kit to fix, my question is why is the seal leaking when not in use , just driving tractor with boom locked in transport pos. Why is there pressure on the cyl when not in use?

The spools have seapage when fluid is going thru system because they are metal to metal with close tolerences. No seals on spools except on ends.

Though there is no real pressure, there is still oil present.

Depending on the design of the seal, pressure actually helps hold the seal lip against the rod, or keeps the oring somewhat compressed and pushed against the sealing surfaces.

This "compression" is even more important as the seal gets worn or looses it's elasticity with age.
