Farmall M power steering issues

I installed a charlynn power steering system on my Farmall M. It came off a SMTA. The guy I bought it from said it worked and came off a running tractor. I put it on and the steering wheel turns against what ever way you turning it or it will just rotate the steering wheel about 4" back and forth. Any ideas what's wrong?

Not to be smug, but it may have come off working tractor, steering might have not worked right. Those are pretty simple to connect, two hoses, it should not have any slop in it.

are you running off a power steering pump or a flow divider off a live pump? by chance, could the lines be reversed on the torque generator?

Some generators will have 4 inches of play sitting still with the engine off, did the hoses get crossed during the change,just had the hood off one, and worked on it.

Welcome to YT. Let me see if I can direct as to the correct connections to the torque generator. Looking at it from the front the fitting the most clockwise is the low pressure port. Let?s see if my greasy picture will load. Seems as though it loaded upside down on my IPhone, but you can see what I mean, low pressure has a hose barb. This is the way it connects on my working tractor.

I think I may have the hoses turned around which is strange since I never removed the low pressure fitting but looking at your pic it appears to be reversed. Thanks to everyone! I'm not new to the ole Farmalls but power steering was a luxury we didn't have back in the day. I just always wanted an M with PS. Thanks again

That did it. Works like a charm. How the hoses got reversed I'll never know cause I didn't remove the low pressure barbed hose fitting. Thanks to all you guys for posting!
