Spring Harvest

Temp in the 30s and raining this morning but the combines were rolling dust yesterday. Not mine but the neighbour's picking up last fall's canola swaths. Pretty windy but I took the drone up in the evening for picture and some video. Lots of muddy spots and water but the duals on the combines seem to keep them from getting stuck. Small picture here. Might be some youtube video later.

What kind of quality do you get when the swath is laying so many months, plus a bit in the water?

They won't get the stuff in the water. Quality varies. I've heard anything from not bad to poor so I can't really comment on this. At least its dry and that is something they could not get at all last fall.

Did buffalo roam that far north? I was just
wondering because around here, on the
plains, there are many buffalo wallows.
Apparently buffalo like to wallow in the
mud and each buffalo carries off several
pounds of mud, and eventually that created
small ponds that fill up with water every
time it rains.

This is deep in the heart of the bison country. I have a skull hanging in my barn that my grandfather found when he came here. There a few big Buffalo rubbing stones in this part of the country and no doubt plenty of wallows. Our city of Regina was formerly known as "Pile of Bones" as it was a central gathering point for the bone hunters. I've seen photos of the huge stacks of buffalo bones destined to be shipped out somewhere by rail. Way back in the late 1800s.

There is a fellow who rents a lot of land from my neighbors . He has 2 4wd combines with duals on front.I am always amazed at their
ability to mash thru mud and soft ground, of course they make some good ruts at times too. That drone takes a fine picture. Thanks
for posting it.
