Repairing cut in rear tire

I just installed a patch inside my 15.5 x 38 rear tire to cover up a 3 in cut in the tread that caused me a flat. I have the tire remounted and inflated and everything looks good. My question is , can someone recommend some type of sealant that I can use to fill in the cut in the tread from the outside so that when go into the field, I will not puncture the patch inside. I am looking for something that will adhere well to the rubber and not come out after a few months of use.
 
A cleaned cut can be closed well with urethane windshield adhesive, or urethane door and window seal. Must be pure urethane, not siliconized or silicon anything. You must also let it cure for 2 days Jim
 
Do they still vulcanize tires anymore? That would be the best bet if they do. Next would be a boot inside that is thicker than a patch. A good boot should hold it so the tire does not gap open that much if glued in well. The boot will also protect the tube from punctures like stems and salks. It will not protect it from rusted off post butts though.
 
I have a 16.9-38 with a 3-4 inch cut. It was holding air but the valve stem ripped off. I took it to my tire shop and he put a small patch then a much larger patch over that along with the new tube. No boot.

Friend of mine had one done a couple years ago. Doesn't seem too common, he had to go about an hour to a larger town to get it done. Cost $100, a lot cheaper than a new tire.
