Got the Allis Chalmers mower mounted on the Farmall A. Little more work before a test run. One issue the outside shoe sits on the ground but the inner one is 4+ inches off the ground. Any ideas? Old mailed me a manual but I don't see that information in it. Disclaimer.....i didn't modify it. I bought it from a guy that got it off an A

Grandpa,

I don't know one single thing about anything Allis Chalmers, but on my Ford 501 three-point mounted sickle bar mower, the elevation of the inner shoe is a function of the
adjustable three-point arm on the link that is closest to the mower. The outer shoe just rides on the ground and the inner shoe is raised or lowered by the three point
arm.

But then, as I said, I don't know anything about anything Allis Chalmers.

could your A have bigger tires than the seller's A? your fronts look a bit fatter than some I have seen. I don't think you want the inner shoe scuffing the ground, but it should be closer than 4". not many options to change the mount w/o fabrication.

Any sickle mower I?ve ever seen or used (I cut
about 1000 round bales a year) and never operated
a disk mower until last year) has adjustable skid
shies or plates. The shoes fit in a nothing on front
and have a bolt on the back. With a block under the
bar, one on each each end remove the bolt from the
back and adjust it up or down. Your outside shoe is
probably up against the bar and the inside shoe has
a space between it and the bottom of the bar. Any
mower,3 point trailer type or simi mount, should skid
along the ground like a sled. That?s your height
adjustment. Good luck and wish could express my
self more simply. Look the skid shoes over good
and it won?t be that hard to figure out. Look to see
that the outside one is even there.

Cannot tell what for connecting link on yoyr lift to the mower but it is too short. that is why it will not lower to ehere it should. Anf both shoes are supposed to be sliding on the ground, that is your depth of cut. And when lift is lowered there should be slop in the connectink link to let the mower drop slightly if you go over a low spot in field. The connecting link is NOT supposed to be carrying mower when in operation. Perhaps when mower was modified to fit on a farmall they did not make the connicting lift correct for the Farmall. Your lift is too short to do the job.
