Wico C Magneto Timing

We have a Wico C Magneto on a 1946 John Deere Model A. We have repaired the magneto and have a good spark coming from it now. Today we tried to pull off the tractor hoping it would start. At one point, the tractor started while it was in gear and ran for about 2 minutes before dying. After that, it would sputter and then backfire and not restart. Any suggestions? Could this be a timing issue?

Does it still have a good hot spark? Once set, timing doesn't change unless the impulse spring breaks. Does it snap like it should?

Like Teddy, I don't see it stopping once running as a Timing Issue. Over 250 RPM the impulse assembly and initial RETARDED START TIMING should be out of the picture. Possibly a condenser or coil problem ???? if the points are good assuming its ignition versus any fuel or carb problem.
