Progress done on that old I.H.674

These past couple of day been out in the shop working on a 1974 International Harvester 674 farm tractor. I started on the rear fender of this tractor. the person who owned it before me was a real nut for stickers I guess. Where ever they had a dent or a scratch there was a sticker on it. the challenge was to find all the spot and get all the adessive off. Sand fenders down to metal and work the dents out. Then prime and paint. Well they look better than they did that is what counts for me.

Hey Brent

Did you get any poppies planted?
Have they come up? Poppies are blooming
beautifully here on the other side of
the mountains from you. I need to find
some good seed to try again next year
I did not have good luck last year.

Yes I did plant seed around the back but one big problem came to the back. I had a ton of wild life that eat the seed up. Between the rabbits, quail, the poppy seed did not have a chance. Going to retry again in about another week. Where thinking we might even have to fence it off to keep them from taking the seed. The rest of the garden area are starting to look good for now. Onions, radishes, garlic are doing okay right now (cold Crop). We do not plant nay warm crop and till the June 1st.

Well you are pretty close to that old willy's. It is a 1952 CJ-3A found at a house that a person had it seating for years in his garage. He was complaining to me how he needed some room in the garage his son got a car and they wanted it in the garage. So I bought it from him maybe a year ago. He wanted 800.00 so I wrote the check and took it home. I always wanted a one and I been looking forward to getting it out and driving it around during this summer time. To the 674 I am in process of taking it apart and cleaning it up. to paint well we use primer first and I.H. case paint. I wanted to use a cheaper brand engine enamel but the color does not match up. L.O.L. I have a I.H. skid steer loader over here that is paint John Deere old construction yellow. It match up with the color it was to be painted when it was bought new. Go figure that one out.

Okay you say little? I will be honest with you this is one of the big tractors I have in my collection so far. This is one of the first tractor I have that has a 60 P.T.O rating and a front loader frame bucket on it. The problem is a farmers son went to get his degree in Ag. Came home for the for the summer his parents went some place for a month and made him take charge of the farm. some thing went wrong on the engine and he threw a rod completely out of the engine. Ran it on three cylinders for two weeks. Yelp I bought it for 800.00 and now I am rebuild the engine (239-D) and restoring it. I hope it will be a fine collection to my tractors I do own now.

To be honest with you all I know is that it is to be I.H. 2150 Red / Rough 2150IH Case and I.H. paint. Yes the light and due to it was still wet might look orange. They other color on my CASE 440 is a Power red color that matches up to a Chevy orange red engine enamel or the case I.H. power red they call it. they old farmall I have are paint Stop sign red. Who knows why Red have so many shades it gets me wondering.

(quoted from post at 13:25:21 04/30/20) Clean as a pin now. Those were nice little tractors, ran smooth and very nimble

Agreed, although my 674 is the "big" tractor around here. Hope you have better luck with your paint than I did. I painted the hood and a few other panels, more to prevent rust than for looks, with the proper Case-IH paint from the dealer and it went chalky and faded within a few years.... Not sure if it's the paint or the guy on the brush, but I was less than impressed.
A shot from a couple years ago with little brother FE35 and big brother MF60 backhoe.....
