12v conversion - alternator options

I am considering converting one of my tractors (MM Jetstar) from 6v to 12v .I am familiar with the usual choice- Delco 10si. I
wondred if there were any other options anyone had experience with for a internally regulated 12v alternator and if it can be wired
as a 1 wire setup. Thanks in advance.

As for economy, availability, simplicity, the 10SI is the go to preferred alternator.

If you have space limitations there are some smaller profile alternators.

I suspect there are some more one wire options out there, never really looked. Good chance it will cost more money though.

Have had excellent luck with these:

I used a single wire, internal regulator type Delco alternator from a wrecker when I converted the Cockshutt 50 years ago. Can't recall the model but think its a 37 amp. Its worked perfect for years. I think we used the original pulley off the old generator so I could still run the wide fan belt. I had to wire in a toggle switch on the dash to get it to start charging on initial start up. Just quick flip on and off and it will charge as long as the engine runs.

I have a one wire on my 9N Ford. The old thing idles at almost nothing and I cruise around the farm on it. If I forget to rev it up it doesn't begin charging. All the others have 3 wire and work perfectly. Its really a two wire cause one is only a few inches long and goes from the output to the pin next to it. We have some instruction here if you decide to go 10si. It is very easy to do and cheaper.

Makes me laugh, my 1947 Indian Chief has that Hitachi alternator, mounted in the same place as the original generator, so that open fan is buzzing right below the seat. Also has one of those huge old yellow Accel Super Coils on it, and a huge S&S Super B carb. I just finished installing a 12V kit from the site on my Ford 850, changed it a bit so I could run a car-type solenoid with key start. You get a rebuilt 1-wire, the right pulley, brackets, a fresh wiring harness, ballast resister and new belt for $99- hard to beat. And it charges at idle, don't have to rev it up

I'm running the regular size Delco one wire alternators from DB on about 10 tractors, none have given me any problems.Start charging at low RPMs and do NOT run the battery down when sitting as I've heard some people claim.

Thanks , that is about what I am looking for. I have done some business with db a few years ago and had forgot about them.

I have a Delco 10SI 3 wire on my 4 Star (same setup as Jet Star). Loop #2 pin to output, #1 pin with a 3 amp 50 volt diode through a short wire to the switch input side of the coil, output to ammeter. Starts charging when engine starts and has been very reliable.

For more compact alternator, one off of an early 80's Datsun/Nissan is smaller and wires up the same.
