I may have found a okay deal on one of these little tractors. What
are the good and bad points of these tractors. I have a AC 7000, and
a Kubota M7040 for bigger stuff, but thought this would make a good
rototiller/garden tractor and maybe some light duty bush hogging.
Decent appearance, no leaks, runs good, average hrs. It?s a 2wd
model. Man is asking $2500. What do you guys think?

I would say that it is an OK deal. The Shibaura built Fords are not known for good parts support, although regular maintenance type parts are readily available from multiple sources. A friend has had a 1710 that he bought new which has been good to him, but thirty years ago another friend bought a 1300 for short money but was never able to use it because he was not able to find a steering part that it needed.

I have it's little brother, a 1500 4 WD that I bought new in 1980. Brakes, water pump,seat,4 new tires and a paint job is about all that I have done to it. It has worn out 3 finishing mowers and has pushed a lot of snow in the winter. It has been a very good tractor and I could sell it today and get about what I paid for it in 1980.The down side is parts are very high for it and not readily available. Depending on the hours and condition $2500.00 for a 2 WD is about right.

Neighbor has one I have used a couple of times. 4wd and has an Allied loader. He also has a Woods backhoe attachment for it. All works pretty good. I was impressed with what it could do.

Guy has one on our deer lease, been sitting out for 20+ years. Gets abused badly every Fall, then sits up again. It always works flawlessly without complaint, solid little tractor. I've always felt sorry for it and wished I had it, but then he'd be wanting to borrow it and be tearing up MY equipment each Fall...

Ford kept the rights to the rights to the parts they told me
when I worked for the dealer good tractors though . They are
idi so you have to use the glow plugs when it?s a 100 degrees
the only other problems sometimes the coupler between the
front driveshaft and axle strips and the diff lock is a weak point
if someone tries to engage while moving it wil screw the pins
up
