The lift was a bit erratic on our ford 640 so we replaced the cam follower pin and adjusted it.Thanks to Agjim for walking us through the adjustment!! Then we tested the baler and raked the 5 acres. My wife got video of the thin grass being raked. It's much better out in the middle.

Great video. Noticed that your hay rows weren't real nice, you will get better rows if you take from one side til they are almost big enough the go the other way and roll them back a bit to tighten the back side. That way you won't miss the wide spots when baling.

The cam and cam flower pin on my Jubilee was worn so bad, I had to made a pin with larger diameter to rub on cam. The other end of my pin fit in the original hole. If things were worn more, I was thinking of making a pin with a roller bearing to rub on the cam.
geo.

Jon, my wife said if she didn't know better she would think a drunk raked that field! Lol. Oh well. Still taking tips and advice. First attempt at making hay. Lots to learn!

Hey TF. Light rain shower went by around 5 am. Sun is supposed to be out all afternoon with a stiff breeze. Strong storms tomorrow. Will that hay dry enough to bale by late afternoon? Temp near 80 by 3 pm.

I've been watching and enjoying your story. Just kinda made me laugh because raking was one of my first jobs. I was maybe 7 or 8 at the time and being runty was so light that even standing on the clutch of the jubilee it wouldn't go down, so I had to pull up on the steering wheel to shift. Lol. And dad chewed me out plenty of those rows weren't straight and tight. Of course our old baker then didn't have the wide pickup yours has so they had to be.

I enjoyed the videos. It?s funny how watching someone else do something that you have done for years (40+ years of raking hay) is interesting. Looks like good sunny hay making weather. We have snow on the ground here in central NY for the third morning in a row. Is that a Ford rake? Is it pto drive or ground drive?

You're do good really, equipment appears to operate good, its just some small things that can make things a lot easier and job go smoother. You guys are sharp and everyone does it a little different. My nick pick area is raking and got that from my dad we used an AC Roto Baler if the hay wasn't raked exactly right it was a real pain to bale.

Looking at the control valve adjustment I would be supersized if the lift arms will go all the way down.... I have never seen one adjusted out that far and it work as it should. Yes it will go all the way up and hold position settings I would wager engine running the ends of the lift arms are at least a ft off the ground when lowered..

Why did you take the inspection covers off...

If we all go to help, they will have lots of time to take videos.
I haven't run a tractor with a rake for many years but I bet I could pick it back up.

Hobo. We made a ton of adjustments to it.
Lift arms are about 8 inches off ground
when down now. Still raises too high.
Took inspection plate off......well I
dunno. Lol

Grandpa love, I enjoy your video's, just wondering what type of camera your wife uses to take the video's.

That's not the easiest thing to do, rake windrows of a thin stand or parts of it being thin like it shown. Overall, looks pretty good. You'll do better in a mature stand, it's kind of self explanatory.

I used a tedder on mature stands, then a NH ground driven rake 256 NH I believe, but we also had a M-F pto driven rake as well. The last one we had was a Kuhn, rotary rake, that was a little different than a side delivery rake.

It was relatively easy to make nice windrows when it's all flat and dispersed with the tedder, basically like mowing in a sense. I pass makes 1 windrow. I raked with using the 315 NH in mind, and the farmer I worked with, really liked the results, his son even more and in the past they did 20-25K bales a year. I'd have it all raked and ready to bale when he arrived from his daytime job. I hadn't done it in many many years, but never forgot how to. I was concerned that it might not be as they liked it done, not the case.

For the 583 JD round baler, I would double up the rows in 2nd cut, he'd tell me how he wanted it, I'd make it so. It was a lot of fun.

I could suggest when baling unknown areas, skip the outside rows til last. Reason I say that is, one of our fields was near the backyard of a nice home and apparently they kept a stack of firewood near the edge, Well one of those chunks ended up going in the pick up of the 315, but it was caught soon enough and we got it out. Had it been worse, we'd have lost the field do to weather, vs, just the outside rows because we did the middle first.

Kevin, raking hay so the baler is always in the windrow is a skill. After a couple of fields you will be a pro. Your willingness to ask questions will shorten the learning curve. Keep the videos coming.....

To high it will take care of itself : ) its the nature of the beast...

8" is close enoufh...

The adjustment on the control valve...

I see a boat load of exposed threads that will push the control valve in rather FAR = your to high issue its bottoming out way before the quadrant reaches top of travel ... As you shorten the link it will make the lift drop lower (control valve able to move out farther)

If you ever go back into it you can work the quadrant and see how it functions... Don't get caught up in all this adjustment garbage its rather simple LOOK at the control valve where its at at the upper and lower limit in relation to the quadrant and how it feels...

Once satisfied run the adjuster out 2 to 4 turns life will be good...
Don't forget to put the cotter pin back in...
