Of metal. Using old carrier on the right I shimmied the bearings on new carrier to come close to the old.
Flipping the carrier I did the other end.
Both

Yes, got a good education watching U tube videos of a guy rebuilding a Dana 44.
I think I can, I think I can. George

Looking good Geo! You tube has helped me a few times too. When you get done, I have a Toyota rear end, that is making noise, for you to do.

if it just dropped in then you don't have enough preload. new brgs. need to be set tighter than used brgs. there is usually shims on the outside of the races for preload and backlash setting. need to keep swapping till correct backlash is obtained.

Keep up the good work George. I have a Dig-It (Power King clone) TLB unit that uses this same Dana rear axle setup. No problems now, but you never know where trouble is hiding and will need to do a pair like this.

Looks like you are getting started off in good shape, here is where it could get confusing, keep it simple. Do you have a new gear set? The new pinion is installed first,, then backlash is set, then contact patch is checked to verify pinion depth is in the sweet spot. If you hit it the first time you will have good reason to dance. Then preload the side bearings. Sometime along the way shoot a little video!
