Ford 8N steering box rebuild

I Recently purchased a 1949 Ford 8N and am rebuilding the steering box. It had a lot of play (steering wheel would turn 1 complete rotation before moving wheels). i found that the lower bearing on the steering shaft had designated. my question is while doing research on rebuilding the steering box all the info i can find shows that the lower bearing is attached to bottom of shaft with a retention clip that fits into a hole in the bottom of the shaft. my steering shaft has no hole in it and i could not find any sign of a clip inside the steering box. am i looking at the wrong tutorials on repairing the steering box? I think these may be later models of the 8N. and how does the bearing go into unit? Does it just set down into bearing cup that is in bottom of steering box? thank you for any help

Can't help you, I'm afraid. But I would suggest scrolling a little farther down this page. There is a separate forum specifically for Ford N series tractors. Plenty of experts there who can help you.
Good luck!
