Does anyone repair cracked cast iron
cylinder heads? This is on a Case C
tractor, casting # 4570A it is cracked at
the back of #4 cylinder. I checked with
several local machine shops and the guys
who did that have retired and no one around
here can or wants to do it anymore. I'm
located in Southern Illinois.

My guy is doing an 830 head right now. If you want to send the head here I'm sure he would do it. I would certainly ask him

about 30 bucks anywhere in lower 48 UPS charged Thad and Me about 15 yrs ago to go from Aurora Mo. to Louisville Ky.to ship a 1070 head here . trouble is ,I think another one is cracked on the 1070 now. I have a Bad DC head with a crack like that . It was easy for me to find another head then . But I refuse to scrap it, I keep it oiled up in the corner.

I found a used head at a salvage yard, they want $525 exchanged for it. I haven't seen it, but they said it has been cleaned and checked for cracks. Or a complete reman head for $1275 exchange

Arnold Motors. I do not know if they are in your neck of the woods or not, probably not. They have a head welding facility in Nevada Iowa. They charge the same rate no matter how many cracks. Last head I had done was last summer. Four cylinder head with three cracks cost me about $600 for welding and new seats and guides. The valve job at the machine shop was somewhere around $150. This is the fourth head they have welded for me. Turn around time is slow.

Shux You can get a whole DC for that . But the head might be junktoo ! ..,LOL . If You can afford it and it is ready to go You are probably money ahead ,if you dont wanna do a road trip . Especially , Considering what shops charge to grind valves these days .. If You are wanting to stay cheap ,I would bet You could get one for a Benjaman out here in the flyover states . You could run a Classified ad on this site , if you have time to fish for one. Btw, I think a DC head will bolt up to a CC , But double che k with a CASE Guru that knows before You buy .

Yeah, the price of the used head is more than I paid for this tractor. And I've bought running tractors in pretty decent shape for what they want for the reman. I already have all new valves, guides and springs for a head. I may go look at that used head, it's a little over an hour drive to the yard that has it.

What do you use your tractor for? Looking at that cracked cyl it appears it has been leaking awhile. How does the other 3 cyl look ? A DC head would be easier to find. I have repaired a lot of cracks, but I am not taking on any work work right now I live in Mahomet 9 mi west Champaign.

A place in Cambridge Iowa that repairs cracked blocks and heads. They used to work at Arnold Motor(Williams cylinder head repair) in Nevada.

There is a guy in southern Indiana that does hood work. He just finished a kubota head for me.

Used to be 2 shops in Chapin Ill. One in town and another one out in the country a ways. The one in the country was supposed to be better. Google is your friend.

I live in Mn. Not sure on shipping and that would be your cost, so look into it. My zip code is 55030.
