Deer food plot question

Our hunting club president insists using roundup then planting a food plot that the deer won?t eat it because of the roundup. Also for those who feed deer during the summer ,what do you feed?
 
Not quite sure I understand- he thinks that whatever you plant, the deer won't eat it because of the Roundup? If so, he's not correct- Roundup has no residual effect, and in fact its odorless as well. The deer will eat it if it is something they are used to eating.
 
I agree that the roundup has no effect on if they visit a food plot or not.what I don?t know is what I can feed in a free choice gravity feeder during summer months that deer will eat here In the Deep South .I?m not planting a summer plot just a fall /winter plot and pasture wheat does well where I hunt
 
I've never heard of Roundup effecting their appetite. Seems like a waste to use it. Lots of what he is killing is probably the deers natural food.
 
Check with your local feed stores, in Texas a lot of hunters feed a protein pellet that helps with antler growth , I think Purina makes one called AntlerMax. Hope this helps.
 
I plant corn with the corn planter, then when it is almost to tall to cultivate with my ford 4000 I spray it with 2-4-D. Then wait a week and cultivate-hill it up. Then wait another week and I take a leaf blower and blow a Brassica mix (radish,turnip,parsnip,rutabaga)in between the rows. This seems to work good for me...
 
might wanna triple check your sources on deer not eating anything sprayed with roundup! in fact you can just call the person a LIAR!
 
He his just plain crazy, and if he doubts you bring him to Tennessee I will show him. Deer sure do not know the difference. I for one sure wish he was right. Young tender corn is a good target for deer... Summer food can,t beat a field of clover, or soybeans.
 
Yes he thinks if we roundup our food plots to control summer grasses/weeds then plant a fall plot the deer won?t eat what?s planted because of the roundup. Lol
 
I don't like Roundup for a number of reasons but I would bet that it has no bearing on whether the deer eat what you plant or not.I put in right many deer plots for myself and for others.I plant Crimson Clover,Sweet Clover,Hairy vetch,turnip mix late August.Any weed most any other plants that come in will get killed at the 1st frost.Turnips will Winter kill most times here(Central VA) the rest will over Winter and come up and grow strong in the Spring/early Summer then bloom do their thing honey bees,turkeys all love it.
Crimson Clover will choke out about anything else until it dies in July,then I disk the plot about every two weeks to kill weeds/work in organic matter before planting again in late August.I also over seed Spring oats(just buy a bag of oats at TSC)about the last of Sept,it'll root in and grow like crazy and deer love it also Winter kills most times.The deer love the mix too BTW.
