Tires - Any Concern?

One of the rears has a bit of a split. Looks like it's thru the 1st of 4 plys. She doesn't get used much, mainly snow. I see them on Amazon for around $250 with free shipping. The rims are a bit rusty and there's no sense of putting this on a new one if her time is nearly up.

Any thoughts?

the tire is garbage. but rims can be sandblasted or even cleaned up with a wire wheel or blending disc. I like to prime the inside on my rims once I clean then up. but depends on what u mean by rust.

Tire's junk, looks like a Goodyear traction torque. What size? I've got a pretty nice 13.6X38 in Northern Illinois.

If it's separating that much on the surface the underlying plies are failing. It's not long for this world. Might go a week. Might go five years, though. You never know. If it's not a critical tractor park it where it's not blocking anything in just in case it lets go.

13.4-28 off a Ford 640.

Thanks anyway tho.

The rust on the other side is worse. Starting to see the tube around the valve hole. Guess I'll keep on eye on CL for a pair.

If it's used for mainly snow. That is when the tire will fail you. In the middle of winter, as far away from your shop as possible. Stan

If you look closer, the top or outside ply the cords run parallel to the break, then right under those cords are the ends of the cords the next ply down. But with the bulging of the casing I bet the other two plys are broke too. I wouldn't put off repairing or replacing it too long. They make tire "Boots", nylon cord reinforced huge tire patches you can install inside a tire just like a inner tube patch on the outside of a tube.
Had a 9-38 Firestone 4 ply, factory installed tire on a 1940 JD B Dad bought in 1969. Had a hole on right rear tire thru all 4 plus, tube bulged out just a bit. No idea how long the prior owner ran it that way but we ran it about two years before I put a mis-matched pair of 11-38's on it.

Might pop anytime. Hit a stick or sharp object just right and its gone. That said I ran a set in worse condition bush hogging, plowing, and such for a couple of years. Final got rid of them when chunks of rubber started breaking off as I rolled along.

Being my first tractor, I appreciate all of the experienced in-site. Thank you!

Not having a crystal ball, I understand there's just no telling when she'll go. But as 37 chief states, and it's probably a sub-paragraph of Murphy's Law; and with knowing my luck, I'll plan on replacing it before the next snow season. Since there is visible rust coming from the inside, (darn calcium) I'll put it on a new rim since it would be $50 to pull it off of the old one anyway.

In the mean time,I filled it up with Liquid Nails. It's not a fix, but at least some protection.

Thanks again guys...
