Lawn mower deck liner.

A while back, someone mentioned that they painted the underside of their mower deck with truck box liner. I asked a paint shop guy about it and he said that I would be sorry if I did. I am wondering if that really did work, how long you've had it on your deck, is it holding up, does it really stay clean and, what product did you use? Thanks

I have seen them painted with slip plate before. Seems like it would make it easier to clean.

I would think the grass will stick much worse, sounds like a bad idea. I put it on our boat trailer, fenders and frame where I walk, worked great for that.

i use por 15 rust conversion primer. wire brush the underside clean, then brush two coats on . lasts a couple years. here is a link

I use graphite paint, like the Slip Plate mentioned, to reduce grass sticking under mowers and to make them easier to clean. I paint the whole under side of the mower decks including the blades except for the cutting edges. It wears well.

I use the same "slippery" graphite paint that we use on the tables of the bale collector wagons and inside of the dump truck boxes when hauling clay. Get it at TS, pricey but works like a charm.

I have an old flat lawn sprinkler that I attach a water hose to and set it under mower deck while blades are turning, cleans underside pretty good. Got to do this right after I get done mowing if grass is little wet..

Sounds like a bummer to me. I would think grass would stick MORE to the rougher surface.

Last fall, I stripped the deck down on our Toro zero turn mower and had the underside of the deck sandblasted. I then primed it and painted it, first with red enamel of the proper color, followed by several coats of automotive clear coat. It had all winter to cure.

My wife has mowed twice this spring, so I'll have to check it and see how it's doing.

I was the one who was asking .
The LX188 and Z245 are still sitting there with rusty decks. A job for next week when it rains and snows again.
Going to blast loose rust off with HP washer and probably prime with phosphatic acid. .
Look at this stuff for a robust and slippery top coat. http://glyptal.com/glyptal_products.html

I did not realize that both Glyptal and POR15 are so pricey. Could worth it however.

If it is new, never used it may work for you. If there is any rust you are just giving the rust a better work space to rust it out much faster. You are better off with one of the phosphoric acid rust converters.

Talk to a Linex dealer, not a paint shop guy.
Linex comes in many varieties from consumer grade slip resistant stuff to industrial, nearly as hard and slippery as glass concoctions.
