JD 60 carburator repair

I own a 1956 JD model 60. It will start but doesn't run well. It will seem to be ok for a bit and then it almost dies with loads of black smoke out the muffler. How complicated is it to remove the carb for cleaning. Can a non mechanical person do it? Are special tools needed. Thanks

Before you pull the duplex,(2 barrel) carb off the 60, remove the intake that comes to the front of the carburetor from the air cleaner. Try running the tractor without this to see if you might by chance have a plugged intake or air cleaner and also if it runs gas out the front of the carburetor from flooding. Are you aware that this is 2 separate systems feeding from a common float and bowl assembly?

Thanks for the good information Gene. I will reply on here what I find out............DY
