Tractor Selfie

I'm actually posting a tractor picture for a change. I was going through the trail cam pictures to clear off most of them and thought this one was worth keeping. The date is wrong as I forgot to set the calendar on the cam. I think it was taken yesterday. Taking a hay bale out to the cattle with the Massey Super 90.

Nice action shot, I like it. Do you know if that loader came on the tractor when new? My F40 has a loader from a Ford, seems to be a good fit. I don't see enough Massey Fergusons to know what kind of equipment they offered when new.

No, that loader is not Massey equipment. It is a Cancade. Well known Canadian company back in the sixties that sold a lot of loaders, blades, etc. Maybe not as heavy as some. This one has been modified and strengthened by a previous owner. It has dug a lot of rocks, gravel and manure in the past but since I got the John Deere, this one is mainly for bale handling.

Farmers and ranchers have a distinct advantage over Urban dwellers. They can get out and do things.
Few tasks require tight groups of people breathing the same air. Much of the food can be found in
the cold storage, freezer, or is still on the "hoof" Nice. In central MN, USA we are just getting
into above freezing tight time temps. The buds are swelling on the trees, and tulips are 2 inches
into daylight. Jim

Nice picture...I agree with you Jim however if youre not able to work those critters do cost money..stay healthy everyone!

I'm not familiar with details of trail cameras. Are they triggered by motion and/or sound? Nice photo. Looks cold based on your coat hood up. And looks cloudy like a lot of our recent southern MN days. I'm farther south in MN than janicholson.

Good idea, driveway cam. I have a couple not in use right now. I'll hang one on thedriveway and
keep track of who comes and goes.

I have two and they are triggered by movement. Sensitivity can be set high or low. Too high and the trees moving in the wind will set it off taking a bunch of useless pictures. It is handy to see what goes on in my yard when I'm not watching.
Yes, its been well below normal temps here the past few days. Down near zero at night and barely hitting 20 some days. So I'm dressed up like its January for sure.

Nice! Looks like a Balen building in the
back ground. Lots of them put up here in
SD in the late '50's & early '60's. I
think there was a Canadian company
working in the area that built them. The
"ribs" in the structure's roof identified
yours as a probable candidate. They are
tough "quansets". I know of several that
survived tornadoes that took most of the
other buildings on the farm site.

No, this Quonset is a Standard Steel brand but I know there are a few Behlens in the area. The steel Quonset really took off here starting in the 1970s. I like the straight wall better but at this stage I'll take whatever storage sheds I can get.
I have some pictures of us building this one back in 1977 I might get around to posting here.

Jal, the details of the building look EXACTLY like the Miracle Span building I have that came out of Watertown in your own state of S.D..

I would GUESS there were MANY others, as well that used the same pattern.

Probably because of its strength! They
are well built. Neighbors to the farm
where I grew up had one built before I
graduated from HS in 1961. It's still
standing although 2 tornadoes have hit
the property since 1962, the first
happened the year after I graduated. The
second one was 10 years ago. The last
one took all the rest of the buildings,
but they had limited upkeep since the
first one.

WOW!! That had to be one of the strongest tornadoes ever. We've had some bad ones in SD, but many aren't that destructive. Do you have any Hutterite colonies near you? We have a bunch in SD. I know there are some in both Sak & Mant in Canada. They will often come from miles around to help with manpower and equipment to a tornado site.

No colonies nearby but always plenty of neighbours willing to come in with machinery and manpower when disaster strikes.
I found a picture of the whole crew of us building the concrete foundation for the Quonset back in the summer of 77. All mixed on site and poured with that wheel barrow.
