Farmall A Axel seal help

Hello all, I?m in need of some help.

I am in the process of replacing the outer axle seal, (the one inside the hub) the old one I removed had a rubber seal as well as a felt packing, I went to the local Auto Value and the new one they gave me does not have the felt. My question is this: Do I need to find a different seal with the material in it or will this one cure my problem? I?ve searched through websites and parts books but haven?t came to a conclusion. Any advice or parts numbers would be appreciated!

The felt is a separate part from the seal, and is still available through FIAT, part number 15017D.

The seal, FIAT # 71697C1, crosses to an SKF # 21134.

That should be the number Auto Value sold you, or it should cross to their store brand.

The felt is a food idea. It keeps the seal cleaner, and "filters" particles away from the seal lips, increasing the life expectancy. Felt can be found at craft stores and fabric stores (it is OK to go in there!! no serious danger involved) cut out several discs to make the thickness if they don't have the right thickness. Jim

I've made them out of floor protectors for chairs. Just cut them to size. A lot stiffer than felt.

I just checked and yes that is the seal they sold me.
Any recommendations on where to order the felt from?
