John Deere 2510 reverse slips out of gear.

Most likely the transmission "top shaft"
where the reverse synchro clutches are
located. Very common problem. The teeth
on the clutch hubs wear to the point they
don't engage properly. Does it do it in
both reverse positions? Not a technical
repair but does require splitting tractor
behind clutch housing. Service Manuel
will walk you through it. Of course
check that nothing came loose in the
shifting linkage, but if forward gears
work, most likely synchros are worn.

Thank you for responding to my question about my 2510 reverse slippage. Yes both selection into reverse slip out . with the cover off the top looking in you can see that the splines line up but just slip once pressure is applied.I am considering shifter adjustments before I split the tractor.I watched on Youtube how to rebuild the shifting selector with bushing and pins. I will keep you posted and let you know my progress. Thanks again

I replaced the synchronizers on my 6030 last fall. When I got done with it, it still jumped out of 5th gear. I pulled the top cover and watched it shift. I immediately noticed that the shifting fork was going into gear (detent pin dropped in place) and then coming out of gear with the motion of the quadrant. The linkage and shifting quadrant needed to be rebuilt. After I rebuilt the linkage and quadrant and I watched it shift the fork and it went into position every time correctly.
