Oliver diesel

Looking for an oliver 770 or 880 diesel for pulling. Nothing real crazy but curious what the difference between the bosch and Rosa master systems are and which one is better. Read on forum searches one might be expensive or hard to find parts for.

Also for debate sake how does a diesel vs gas oliver engine stack up. Have done some reading and will do more but like they say times are always changing

I mostly replied so I can follow the thread. I know bosch pumps are hard to get parts out of. I would think you could get more out of a roosa. That being said I think it's much cheaper to make hp from a gas engine.

Blue, Bosch pump has limited parts availability. The other
problem is the 770 and 880 are indirect injected. J.
Schweibert will tell you as well as diesel tech and others.
Both are good old tractors and I had a 770 gas and Super 88
diesel. Chucks Oliver 77 has one of the best running 77?s and
880?s I?ve seen on u Tube.

I just Frankenstein d two Bosch PSB s into one for a fellow, his head and rotor wouldn t deliver enough fuel at cranking rpm to start, so I swapped another head onto his pump just to take a chance and it starts and runs.

The Roosamaster setup is better hands down, no question, especially for parts availability.

For pulling, I think the gas engine has the edge, especially if it has higher compression pistons and some head work done.

How does one tell the difference between a bosch pump and a rosa master. Tried Google searching but came up empty. Might have found a late 770 diesel I could pickup cheap.

Can the diesel engines be bored and stroked?

If not grandpa has a parts tractor with a power booster delete shaft that I could stuff a 310 into

Blue here?s the Bosch pump. Ross?s Master is a more round
looking unit.

Start with a 310 direct injection. Will
have a roosamaster/ Standyne pump. My Son
has a 426 Waukesha Diesel. Came from a gen
set. You can make a 310 400 plus cu. I
have a D17 Allis Diesel,puller, but a gas
is easier and cheaper to build.

A friend has taken a 310 Diesel and bored and stroked it to around 400 cu. Then turned it into a gas with a 16 to 1 compression. Not for the faint of heart. The cam is different because the gas head has the intake valves paired. A diesel is every other one. But makes it breathe good. Computer says 250 hp. At 3000. Also you have to have a crank triggered ignition. Lots of fun. Also concrete block and plug all water holes in head. Then run water in back of head and out the front. Sure there is more but enough to let you know what to expect.
