Thanks to all of you. So far it seems to be IAC. Since that's easy to get to, I took it off and noted it looks quite "gummed up". Went for a new one, NAPA could find 1 in Chicago, local Ford parts could find 4 in Memphis, Auto Value had 5 in St Cloud. I ordered from Auto Value - be here tomorrow.
On a hunch, I sprayed Kroil (most of you probably know about that) into the old part and wiggled the slider with a screw driver and put it back on. Started it with slight hesitation but I'll put the new part on anyway.
I also started it while the IAC was removed. It took right off with no noticeable stumbling but it went to 2000 RPM which would be expected.
So thanks to all you mechanics. Your advice is very helpful.
