Is it normal for the valve closest to the radiator to spin freely?or is it broken? while all other valves do not rotate freely

1952 8N

thanks

Can you be more detailed in what you are observing?

Are you saying there's no spring tension of the #1 exhaust valve?

Are you observing rotation with the engine running?

Or?

well lets get down to the nitty gritty here as a 8 N does not have valve RODS since it is a flat head engine . YOu have the valve and spring that sets above the valve lifter and some call a cam follower Now if the thinggy coming down from the top is loose and spinning free then you have a problem , if the thinggy coming UP from the bottom spins free and turns this is NOT a problem as it is suppose to to some extent , if the rest are not then they maybe gummed up in there bores or the have become dished out and can no longer turn .

Mike ..... Rotate freely or with some force of some kind applied? Even when closed, there must be some force keeping them closed even with the valve clearance gap.

I noticed the parts list shows free rotating valves or fixed valves

Does the 52' 8N have free rotating or fixed valves or a combination?

Thanks

i am presuming your talking about valve rotators. these are located on top of the spring to rotate the valve a small amount as they are working up and down to prevent carbon buildup and keep the seat clean. don't know what you mean by "spin freely". I am pretty sure that tractor does not have them.
