Digital scales

I wanted 3 ton of white rock.
After I weighted in the second time 2.97 ton. I asked how did the guy get that close to 3 ton?
The lady in the scale house said there are digital scales on the Cat loader.
The operator must have figured out how to use it.
When did they put scales on the loaders?

That way one big Cat loader.

When I worked in a feed mill in the early 70's we loaded a lot of grain and fertilizer with a bob cat and got pretty close to the desired weight we were after. If you know what a bucket full ways and can fill and dump consistently you can get pretty close to a given weight without scales. I not sure how I can picture digital scales on a loader but in today's world nothing surprises me.

The ones I've been around are just a really good pressure guage. You need to calibrate it in the same place and read it there. Like all the way up and just down a bit. Or rollback bucket just above the ground.

I first encountered that a few years back when shipping a pallet load of stuff. The forklift at the freight depot had one. It's a strain gauge similar to that used in digital bathroom scales, just bigger and better. The operator had a display on the dash that showed the weight instantly.

I 've plumbed a hydraulic pressure gauge into the boom supply lines on my loader and calibrated the pressure with a known weight. "Not legal for trade" but pretty good for round bales etc.

Loader scales

They have been pretty common around here in all the queries for several years. It requires the loader to be level and the bucket and loader arms to be at a certain place. They get a scoop, pick it up to a point then just shake out what ever until they get what they want. We haul 26 ton of ag lime on our tractor and trailer and the cat loader will load it in less than three scoops. He gets two full ones and the scale has a counter so he know how much he has to shake out of the third on to be on the money. They are usually pretty close. What did limestone cost you per ton there?

Jm,
There was gravel left in the bucket. So he picked up more than 3 ton. Thought it was neat. Rarely go to gravel pit. I just need a gravel. In the past I would have 20 ton delivery for what it would cost me to haul it myself.

The pit I go to is usually within a few lbs on my dump trailer which I haul 3-4 ton on. I finally realized he had a scale on the big loader which looks to hold about 8-10 ton. We had them on our fork trucks at the freight company before I retired which was 10 years ago so they have been around a while.

My dump truck approx. empty # and loaded # on bed, They get real close most every time usually lite instead of over loaded.

The quarries around here had them 15 years ago. The Cat service guy was in working on them a lot.
