9N transmission noise

9N been running fine for 20+ years, but today I start it up and have a clacking noise. Noise goes away when I push in the clutch. Noise is there in neutral or any gear, putting the sherman in high the noise is faster. Any ideas what to look for before I start splitting it apart?

Try lifting up on the shift lever while the tractor is running. The aluminum trans. cover socket for the shift lever ball gets worn
over the years and the bottom end of the shift lever rubs on the gear.
If that turns out to be the case, you need to build up that socket. I did one several years ago. I
built up the socket with some epoxy and had the slot in the side welded shut and then recut it.

Thanks for the ideas! Oil is full. Noise is there with upward pressure on the shifter, PTO engaged or not. It does go away putting the sherman in neutral. I'm starting to think something on the input shaft has failed. I can actually feel the noise in the steering wheel!
