New Holland mod 3010S PTO brake wont disengage PTO. PTO OK

New Holland mod 3010S, year 2001, PTO brake wont disengage PTO. PTO works fine, but have to jumper safety switch, engage before starting. Appreciate any suggestions; hopefully not have to split case. Thanks, Jack, Bryan Tx.

If you are jumpering a safety switch there are two issues that need inspection from outside. The first is to determine if
the switch shows any change in continuity (ohm meter) between the terminals when moving the lever. (disconnect the switch at
least one terminal to do this). if no change, it is necessary to pull the switch and see if it works when removed by
actuating its plunger or follower. If it works out of the mount, looking inside the hole or mount might shed light on what
is happening. Look at the switch to see if the tip or follower has been bent or broken shorter. Jim

Thank you. Switch when bypassed/shorted/ allows tractor to start with PTO engaged. Appears clutch/brake is stuck engaged. Question is how to release it.

This started after hit concrete with shredder and stalled motor. PTO clutch lever still felt like it was disengaging but would NOT disengage after that. Disengages only when use PTO gear lever. I have a temporary jumper on the safety switch to allow starting tractor with PTO lever engaged, allowing PTO to power shredder.

The impact probably broke the clutch linkage. I do not know anything at all about that clutch, or linkage. I will say that
running it with the system "ON" and not able to be shut off without jerking it out of gear is dangerous. Jim

your saying two things here.

first. If the pto turns off and on via the lever, that part is working correctly.

second. If it wont start unless you jumper the pto safety switch, you either have a bad switch or its out of alignment with the pto lever that puts it in the safety mode when the lever is in the off position.

So based on what you said, the pto safety starting switch is not working correctly and you have to jump it, to start the tractor. I would either bypass the switch or fix it.

I want to fix the problem but didn't know where to start. Have NH trans drawing from dealer but doesn't help any on this. Guess will just start to take off trans shifter fork plate, then the inspection plate further towards the rear. Will post results. Thanks all.

I know this is an old thread, but my 3010S PTO clutch also does not work. I was able to see by looking in through the inspection hole, that one of the levers is not releasing. Can't see exactly what is causing it to hang so must split. All I can say is this PTO clutch must be really tough to not slip with only one lever holding it when you kill the tractor by hitting a big stump with the rotary cutter. Look forward to finding out what is the matter.
