International 656 hydro

Hello everyone I just bought a IH 656 hydro diesel with a 2350 loader. I have never owned a international tractor but I?m excited to get it to use. Any how the three point won?t lift. After a while it will go up and down but I can stop it from going up with my hand. I?m really worried about it and I?m not sure we?re to start. The loader is running off of one of the remotes in the back and it works ok. Also we?re are all the hydronic filters at. I ordered a manual but it?s still a week out. I?m willing to put some money into the tractor but should I take the plate off under the seat is that we?re the pump is for the three point and the rest of the hydraulics work fine please help

Pump is not under the seat, it should be on the left foot pedal side down low. Google pictures there is a plate on the side with approx nine bolts or so. On the other side is the filter which is where you need to start . If the oil is milky it needs to be changed. And with a hydro do not use anything but hy-tran if it needs changing. Filter first, oil second and then get gauges on the pump. Need a book before you go farther.

Not familiar with that tractor but had a similar problem with a Case 930. After way too much work I found that the draft control lever was in the wrong place moved to correct position and like magic it worked the way it should

I have tried the draft lever every which way with no luck but I will try it any way. If it matters I know the tractor has been sitting for several years but the fluid looks nice and clean but they may not matter

Rodger here are some pictures of the side of the tractor tell me which one is the filter in the pump area this is the left side if you?re sitting in a seat and then the right side if you?re sitting in the seat I?ll show you

There is a draft control component inside the top 3pt link attachment to the right that could be an issue if the follower is on the wrong side of the long cam like strip. Just a possibility. Another issue could be the piston seals on the lift cylinder. That requires a lid removal. Good luck, I hope it is simple. Jim

Thanks I will look at that that too it?s weird it works when you take it?s up on the RPMs like 1200 and if you don?t go all the way down it will lift with me standing on it dang thing

the round cover on the right side, under the brake pedals, is the main hydraulic filter. the 1453 filter on the left by the starter is also a hydraulic filter. 2 of my 656 hydros have the 1453 filter, and one doesn't.
the linkage problem that janicholson mentioned can be examined by taking the top link plate off. one of mine has the issue, after using a post pounder on the 3pt. but on mine, the 3pt went all the way to the top and stayed there- won't go down unless the tractor is shut off for several hours.

OK not having a hydro myself, the pump is behind the square plate with two hoses mounted on it on the brake side. That oil filter marked 1453 is likely the hydraulic filter. I have not been on the CASEIH website which you can look up parts for that particular model. Jim posted about a linkage that is inside the rear end that has in the past been a problem with IH tractors with 3 points. I am curious about the round canister on the one side. Try to get on the web site and look at the diagrams. I will later tonight look at the IH books that my Father in law gave me for a hydro 656 and know more at that time.

Thanks I?m still waiting for the manual I ordered I?m not sure what the round cover is either And I looked on the IH case website but I think I need to use my lap top I think it?s easier to navigate than my phone when I find out I?m going to change the filter first but when you get a chance let me know what you find in those books thzz as no?s Rodger

Thanks I just changed the screw on filter (1453) and I will change the other one you mentioned under that round cover and do you know the part number on that filter and I will pull that cover off under the seat and look at that linkages it?s weird when you rev up the motor the three point works but only if it?s not all the way down and when it?s all the way down as I?m trying to lift it with the control handle I can lift it clear up with my hands it?s heavy but I can lift it and help it then it takes off.

I have some in the shop and can check in the morning. I think it is a NAPA 1251 or maybe 1253.
the way the hitch is behaving is a new one on me.

When International came out with that tractor, the local IH dealer brought one to the Ag class and some of us got a chance to drive it. It was the beginning of a revolution in transmissions. All kinds of equipment went to use that method of transferring power to the wheels.

put the three point lever in raise position, try raise loader,if it raises there is a seat in the valve body under seat that is loose. it is a slotted screw.

customers tractor 656,3 point wood not raise ,hit a remote lever came right up.seat was loose in valve body.

the filter under the round cover on the right is a 1253. sorry for the delay in responding. when I got up this morning, the furnace was off. then things got hectic, and here I am.

Thanks a lot sorry for my late response as well I was sleeping I works night 12 hour shifts. My next day off is Wednesday I will go to town and get that filter and change it all so will fluid poor out all over or just minimal

I will check that too thanks but I won?t be able to check it until Wednesday I work night shift so I won?t be able to look at until then maybe

Hello I finally changed the hydraulic filter the one you said and it didn?t help my three point any. But I seen on YouTube I wonder if the lift cylinder under the seat needs a new O ring? It works and the higher it gets it seems to have lifting power and if you let it all the way down and put my weight on it 210lbs it won?t lift if I get off and let it move up a little and then stand on it it lifts all the way even with me on it. I?m just not sure. What do you think?
