Massey Ferguson 1080 Radiator Flush

I have a MF 1080 with oil in the radiator. Can someone tell me step by step directions on how to properly flush the radiator and block? Is it best to remove top and bottom hoses, how do you drain block, etc? Sorry for all the questions, but I have never flushed a radiator system before and want to do it right. I recently acquired tractor from my grandfather. Thanks for any information.

First thing find the source of the oil.. Head gasket, oil cooler. Oncr that is repaired drain the radiator. Should be a petcock on the bottom of the radiator and one on the side of the block, add about 6-8 ounces of dawn dish soap and fill with water. Let the tractor run or take a one hour joy ride. Drain and flush with clean water. May have to do it more than once depending on amount of oil. If you are satisfied that the system is clean and tractor is no longer putting oil in the coolant, refill with coolant

As said, find the source first.

The oil will naturally try to float up, so the majority will be in the top of the radiator.

Add some dish soap to the radiator a day or so before, let it run and work on the grease.

Start it up, get it warmed up to operating temp with the cap off. Hang a very slow running hose (hot water if available) in the open radiator. Try to float as much up and out as possible. If there is still oil collecting, repeat a few times until the majority is gone.

Then drain and flush with the engine running at fast speed, the drain open, and the hose running fast enough to keep water coming out the top of the radiator. To get the best flush, temporarily remove the thermostat.

Let it drain. There is a block drain, if the plug will come out. You'll probably have to prod the sediment out to get it to drain. But if it won't come out, don't risk twisting the plug off.

Once drained and flushed, might give it a few days to see if any more oil comes up, and it probably will. Repeat until yu are satisfied it is clean. Then drain the water and refill with 50/50 antifreze and distilled water or premix.

Take a look at the hoses and radiator cap. They may need replacing as oil will attack them from the inside.

Most likely the oil coller went south. With it off put it in a pan of water deep enough to cover it. Then with air on the one port and the other sealed heat to find the leak. You may not need to heat if the leak is bad enough. Though most likeley will need to. also only put air pressure no higher than the oil pressure from the engine on the cooler. This will help diagnose it. Once found, if it leaks replace with good used one or new. They will be pricey. Then I just ran the engine with some dawn dish soap till it warmed up and drained acouple of times. Then while it wes warm and running I let the rad run over the top to get the last of the oil out since it seemed to just coat things on the inside. While the water was running the oil would continue to run off that way.
