Got 350 little bales of straw to get fed they?ll get
mixed in the tmr mixer ration. Then a farmhand
hydraulic valve update finally got an email back
from ?your agriculture company ? formally knows as
the ?allis gleaner corporation ? that the farmhand
part number 1R1278 is available for under 20$ plus
shipping. Loaded straw in the dark at 6 am after
night calving shift and just got it dumped off

Isn't life great. Now you can do it again tomorrow. Stay warm out there, and take care of the little ones Stan

Straw is part of their feed? Didn't know it could be used that way. On another topic, how many hours of sleep do you need? Looks like you're taking good care of the new calves.

Always nice when you can get a part for a fifty or 60 year old machine right from the dealer without running around and trying figure out what part may or may not work.

We always feed straw it is good in the winter
especially it keeps em warm I?ve seen it be forty
below zero and they?ll eat straw before the hay. One
year I couldn?t find any hay I fed straw and rolled
barley . Right now sleeping for awhile in the day
then back to night calving

That?s great news SV,I know some guys that mix a bit of shortly chopped wheat straw in with their calf starter for dairy calves.

I?ve usually get about 15 bales of oat straw that has so much green in it that it?s about like grass hay went to bale one time and as quick as the sun went down plugged the baler up tight so I grabbed the moisture tester it only goes to fifty percent and it was above that. Barley straw is really good especially if you can get some with grain still in the heads

We fed a tiny bit of straw to the cows on the dairy but I wasn?t to involved with the milk cows they just aren?t my thing

On another topic, how many hours of sleep do you need?
I was thinking the same thing.
What's SV going to do when he wears his body out?
SV, take care of yourself. Geo.

Thanks. I?ll be excited to get this valve going : need to get to town and get a hay hook these bales are so tight I can?t get ahold of them

Clean oat straw is good but never heard of wheat straw in a cows feed and the steaw stack from the threshing machine in cow lot they would pull the straw out of the stack for bedding but did not eat it.

When the temperature drops hay stays the same and some barley straw is added to their diet. No problem having them eat it. More heat value in the straw. I also feed just before dark as eating also creates some heat as well having having the cows calve more during the day than at night. I don't get out of bed to check during the night. Some people think I am crazy and maybe I am. Bud

When Dad was raising hay, in the 60's wire was used to tie the bales with the New Holland auto tie baler. I can almost remember the sound of the four cylinder wisconson motor. Most were around 90-100 lbs. two wire, and very tight. Hay hooks were the only way to handle the bales. Before my time everything was three wire hand tie. Dad said the bales were very heavy. Stan

We tried night feeding and it just didn?t gain us that much so we went back to day feeding. Most everyone else feeds at night they say it really helps maybe we just didn?t keep at it long enough . Takes us long enough to feed that might as well check cows at night as feed all night

We use to make 75 and 80 pounders so they would work in the new Holland stacker . I use to like to see how tight I could make them now I like 60 pound bales the best for stacking by hand. I?ve seen some 3 string bales but never handled any I bet they are heavy buggers
