Tennessee Tornado

Chief,

I live 40 miles south of Nashville, TN near Spring Hill, TN. We had some rain but no storm damage here. Nashville was hit by tornadoes in 1998 that did a lot of damage to the town. This one did damage to Nashville, but it really tore up the northern and eastern suburbs. Gallatin, Mt. Juliet, and Lebanon are a mess. And then, about 40 miles east of Nashville, the Cookeville area was really torn up. Most of the fatalities are over in that area.

Lots of clean up and restoration activity will be going on for weeks or longer.

My son drove down to Nashville yesterday afternoon on business and as soon as I heard about the tornado, called him. He said debris was up in the air 20,000 feet, and the track of the tornado was 150 miles long. He was downtown and OK.

I?m about fifteen miles north of where it touched down. A lot of lightning and heavy rain but no damage. Didn?t get any alerts on the phone, didn?t think it was bad enough to turn on the TV. Didn?t know anything had happened until I got up about 4:00. What a mess. Historic area of East Nashville too.

I was working in Clarksville TN 2 years ago this time when a F2 went thru. About 70? or so away from the Apt building I was staying at. Even that Relatively weak thing did some serious damage. Seeing that kind of Damage up front and personal is way different than on TV or the movies. It?s very sad to hear about the fatalities.

I'm in Dickson county west of Nashville we had some 2.5 inch hail in the county lots of busted windshields and even some holes in metal roofs. I lucked out had no damage missed me by a couple miles.
