Some potato hauling pictures from this weekend

I got a real treat this weekend, I was asked to haul for someone that has a pretty nice truck. It?s a 2005 Western Star that?s in really nice shape. It has a Detroit with a 13 speed and about 550 000 miles on it. I hauled 2 loads yesterday and 1 today. It?s snowing here most of the day today. Had a bit of a scare. At the end of the side road where it joins the highway there?s a short steep hill downward then it starts back upward at the stop sign. It hadn?t been plowed or sanded. I came to an almost stop with a load on at the crest of the hill, put the jake on ready to flick it off if the trailer started to pass me. I crept down as slow as I could and as the truck started speeding up I started applying the brakes. The tires drug on the snow covered roads with all the weight on so I slid down the entire grade of maybe 150?. That wasn?t horrible except there?s a closed down garage on that corner and some idiot was ripping around the parking lot with an old half ton. As I was sliding down the hill they plowed through a snow bank flinging themselves out onto the road. Luckily they managed to stay in their own lane. Here?s some pictures of the receiving yard at Cavendish Farms fry plant. I was just here on Friday with the electrical contractor on ojt helping do scheduled maintenance and change a 30hp fan motor.

Nice cab! It is nearly identical to the cab of the 2003 International that I had. Maybe IH builds cabs for Western Star, LOL.

I hauled a few loads of taters out of Texas to Chicago for chips. They loaded on the scale so you went out at80,000, so you had to have fuel before you went in. Engine brake on bad roads is not a good idea.

Yeah, it is a ad idea to use the jake in bad traction conditions. Flip the switch and deploy your On-spot chains, LOL.
