hi
I'm trying to decide which plow to get, a three bottom semi-mount auto reset or a three bottom full mount auto reset. i'll be using an oliver 1600. I've been using a three bottom trailer plow but its a back up reset. I only have experience with trailer plows. any opinions?

There's no question in my mind. Semi mounted gives you draft control, but less need for front end weights. Starting and finishing a land, plus while raising and lowering the plow, you can control the front and rear somewhat independently, allowing you to really finesse the job.

Go with the semi mounted, particularly if the ground you farm is rolling. A semi mounted plough follows the contour of the ground., and its rise and fall. A mounted plough follows the tractor. So with a mounted plough, if the tractor goes into a dip, the plough goes deep. If the tractor goes over a hill top, the plough will come out of the ground.

Deffinatly the semi-mount, Works more like you are used to. Lot easier to adjust than a mounted plow.

Stick with the trailer plow. Or get one with the auto reset. Those mounted of any style are just an anchor if it happens to be a bit wet. Then pulling them out is another problem disconnect, and pull plow out backwards and all that not for me. The trailer plow will turn shorter on corners when finishing the headland also. I've plowed with both and prefer the trailer plow any day of the week. Those so-called semi mount plows suck when the cross pull bar breaks from stress by turning to short.
