880 invoice

Found the invoice for the Oliver 880 my dad bought new. He traded in a Farmall M. Kinda funny what they considered as options back then. They have written on there that it has a 3 point hitch but, it has a traction hitch. He also bought a 3-14 5440 plow. I still own it.

My Dad always paid cash/check for everything too. If he didn't have the money he didn't buy it until he did. Neighbor said-you are never going to get done with that little, old machinery. Pa answered-I got done last year, why wouldn't I get done this year.Several years later that neighbor filed bankruptsy.

I just looked on tractordata because I have no knowledge of Olivers, it sure tested a lot more HP than claimed, must be a good performer! Gas or diesel? Are parts available for Waukesha engines?

Definitely parts are available,we had a guy in our area, he pulled a two row corn chopper with one, this one looks like a gas, just like the corn chopper guy had,it had the super 88 engine, speeded up 200 RPM!

The few invoices I have seen they were not very concerned about putting serial numbers on them. Doesn't look like yours has one either.

That?s a great combo. The 5440 plow was made specifically for the 770s and 880s. Really hard to find one today. It was a non-steerable semi-mounted plow. My grandfather had exactly the same rig. His came with a 4-14 plow, but he removed one. 3-14s were a good load in our part of the world. I was a kid when it was in use, but he said it did a good job. The small tail wheel was a caster or ?crazy? wheel and it really took a beating, as the plow would really swing around fast ( sticking straight out behind) when you turned on the headland. The large gauge wheel was required as the power-traction hitch didn?t have draft control. I still have the 880 but unfortunately the plow was scrapped.

We ran a two row chopper with a S-88 for several years. My son just rebuilt my Father's S-88 diesel a couple of years back. Everything was availabe.
