my tractor has been setting for about six month and now the solenoid does nothing but click I have shorted around it to turn over motor but no fire what can be wrong it started an ran fine before

I'd start by checking all connections. I'd guessing since you say no fire it is gas engine. So pull the center wire out of the cap and check to see if you have a good blue/white spark that jumps a 1/4 inch gap or more
