PTO issues

I have an international 404 it runs great the only problem I have is the pto will began to slip when in taller grass I was told that the main clutch is the one that drives the pto and it may need to be changed just checking on the truth of that

The tractor has a transmission driven PTO. This means the power does come through the engine clutch to mechanical shafts and
gears and a disconnect (on off) mechanical clutch.
If the tractor slows down as the mower slows down, and the engine stays running fast at PTO speeds, the main clutch is going
out and needs replaced. (a split of the tractor is required) if the tractor stays at the same speed as the mower blades
slow down, the issue may be a slip clutch designed into the mower. Usually they can be tightened or repaired much easier
than the engine clutch. Jim
