Yes, odd weather

Just to add what I have in my area. The mid Atlantic area has only gotten a little dusting. Didn't even need SALT, but you know they poured it on. It is now February 1st and just nice weather. I am NOT complaining, not at all. No way! February is usually the stinky month of winter and so far the farmers almanac is looking about correct. Warm winter. Maybe this winter for us is just going to be some sucky weather and that's it. Tomorrow we are heading for 50? temps again. Two weeks ago it got up to 69 degrees.

Jeffcat we also had snow in Otsego County N.Y. I got called out to plow after a car had crashed on one of our roads. Main roads I plow were fine but backs roads were covered. We would like to stay home but people have to go to town and want bare roads.

You mean the milk, eggs, and bread crowd. When it snows does everyone need to make plates full of French Toast? Grin. That is why I keep my bread in its plastic bag in the freezer. IM READY !

Ya, it?s crazy, we had a dusting this am, county plowed and salted! Maybe for the Bible thumping church goers, there?s times we have 8? of snow on the road and there nowhere to be seen! I?m glad I don?t have to work this winter!

Jay, My superintendent calls me when we have to go out. Our town doesn?t want to pay overtime but Mother Nature seems to want to make it snow on weekends. Kind of damned if you do and damned if you don?t plow. I plowed commercial lots only a few years ago and I liked it as long as no one was around. Gas stations were fun when the cars and trucks rolled in.

I was a wingman for our town years ago, they were much different then the county, different roads ect, our town only has 3-4 trucks, 3 drivers and a back up truck. The county is much bigger, they have 3 shifts in the winter last I knew. They will plow the road 3-4 times when it?s bare sometimes, even my 8 year old daughter laughs when they go by saying there?s nothing even on the road!
My town dosent even use salt, last I knew it was stonedust. They had a pile of salt for ice storms. Well that?s one job I don?t miss!

Jay, Our county reimburses our town for plowing and sanding the county roads in our town. We only have 5 trucks. Newest is an 07 Mack we bought last year. The Mack I drive is an 05 we bought in December 2018. I finally have a good working wing on it .

I retired from DOT 5 years ago, when it snowed or iced we would work 12 hr. shifts, 24 hr. coverage until the roads looked like it was July.

I was standing in line at a supermarket during a raging blizzard, minding my own business, when a lady behind me tapped me on the shoulder and said: "Excuse me sir, but do you see something wrong here?" I had no idea what she was talking about. She pointed out how everyone in that line was buying milk and bread except me. "You're buying beer and cheese" she said. I explained that while, yes, I was buying good aged cheddar cheese, I was not buying "beer". I was buying Guinness Stout. She said: "Oh, I tried that one time and it tasted like sludge." I had to inform her that Guinness Stout has everything the human body needs, vitamins, minerals carbohydrates, etc. except proteins and fat. That's where the cheese came in. I assured the dear lady that everything was alright and she need not worry.

We have had snow coverage most of this winter. We have had a couple thaws , and the rain would wash away the snow, but within a week it was a winter wonderland again. We have frost in the ground, but only a few inches and not enough to hold up and construction projects that have earth work, digging or grading, etc. Mild winter? Some days, but below 0F many mornings, not a really strange winter for us, just not constant cold with heavy snow accumulations.

West Michigan here, yep been a very mild winter for us too. Have only had to have the driveway plowed once so far. Usually we'd be knee deep in snow at this time of year. What really concerns me though is that I've noticed that when we have a mild winter we tend to have colder damper and cloudier spring weather. Just a personal observation maybe some of you have noticed likewise? I guess we'll find out this year how accurate this observation is. Supposed to get close to fifty degrees today! That just ain't right, just saying.

Local weather watcher said the other night that we are having a "snow Drought". We are 17.5" shy of our average snow fall of 50 inches by, Dec.31.--------------Loren
