OT-water line

Take a piece of 3/4'' rebar and weld a 3'4'' X 2'' bell reducer on one end, isolate the suspect water line from the rest of the
water system as much as possible, tie in an air hose, blow line out and then shut the downstream valve, apply 60-80 psi of air,
drive the rebar in the ground 18-24 inches and listen through the large end of the bell reducer for air leaking, do so every 3-4
feet for the entire length of the line until you hear something and then you can narrow down from there. Even if you locate a leak
on the first try make sure to check the entire length of the line in case there is more than one leak.

I did the rebar thing looking for a leak at one of the rental houses, one hole started spewing water straight up.It was almost exactly above the leak, get lucky sometimes.

Our water department recommended someone who came out with a listening device. We ve had that happen twice. First time they found the leak. Second time the leak was closer to the house and the water line was run through a sleeve. If that s the case the listening method is useless.
Good luck.

Quite possibly, In Michigan its below frost line. I think, It could be 'split' from freeze, maybe under rthe driveway where
ground got packed down !

Just take a reducer screw a hose barb into the big end put on the new water line screw the reducer onto the old line. It will pul the new line right through where the old line was. This way you only have to dig at each end. I did this to replace about 50-75 feet of old steel line with new plastic line. Also use as close to the right size hose clamp as you can and make sure you get the ones with the stainless steel screw or you will be digging it up to fix that in a few short years. The reducer will swell the hold for the clamp and line to pull through. Dad did this also one winter when he didn't want to dig up his driveway since then.
