I have a case 2470 that I need some info on. This tractor has been a savour on the farm, it has basicly done it all from pulling a Ferguson 8 bottom to pulling a 30ft international cultivator to pulling the chisel plough. I have been having a few issues lately with the power shift though. It is starting to grind gears when shifting even when it?s under no load. Does anyone know if I?m going to have to do a rebuild or do i need to replace a bearing or what. Can someone give a rough estimate of a powershift rebuild.

Not a Case guy but some of the Case regulars post here such as Adirondack Case Guy or you could post on the Case board on this site. Don't know how to trouble shoot the power shift but have heard that substantial work on that costs more than the tractor is worth typically. Don't know what parts availability through CNH is at this point for a tractor over 40 years old. Probably be money ahead to find a parts machine that has a know to be good PS to transplant into your 2470 if you want to keep it going.

If you can do the work parts are cheap through case according to my brother. He has rebuilt a half dozen or more. You have to know what you are doing as very few case shops even did. When he is finished with them the shift smooth and no jumpy clutches either. I have 2 good ones but live to far from you as I'm in manitoba.

Under the floor board there are a couple of adjusting screws that may save you.
I've forgotten how to adjust them, but perhaps someone on the Case board can help.

Your best bet for good advice is to go to the case forum and ask there. Rod is the power shift expert but there are many who know what they are doing and are happy to help. I'm not anywhere near an expert but to me if it is dragging so you have to grind gears to shift the 4 speed you likely just need a valve adjustment. But ask down below.

almost every comment here is wrong,, when you guys do not know anything about something other than what you heard from joe blow it is best to not try to help as all you do is confuse and make things worse, leave it to the ones who have done this since these units were made,,

I did not get his response but the best approach would have been to address the OP's problem then we would all learn. Anything is possible concerning the OP's tractor but I have heard time and again major rebuilds on those power shifts are quite expensive. And this is coming from a guy who is fairly open to owning a 2470 and almost bought one a number of years ago.

More than likely just woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Something that we all do from time to time.

he posted on the Case board and got his Correct answer,, my point was and still is if you do not have a clue what you are talking about just sit on the side line and learn,, lot of them here comment just to comment and have zero value to add, like the other reply above

You call that discussion on the Case board him getting the correct answer?

Looks like more of the exact same as what he got here. I don't see any "answer" to his issue, and the last message is the OP clarifying the grinding behavior.
