We had these 2 visitors in our pasture this morning. Yesterday, the 2 adults were there and 3 immature eagles too. A few brave crows flew in and started bothering them. I was hoping to see an eagle demolish a crow that got too close. The cherry tree they are next to is close to 4? diameter at the ground. They are big birds. We are expecting new lambs soon. I hope these guys mind their own business.

Ponds or lakes nearby? They mostly feed on fish. Neighbor has a lake on his place. Eagles take muskrats off the ice. You should be more concerned about coyotes.

Don't you keep the ewes inside during lambing? I don't think an eagle could carry a lamb away but they would kill them and eat them on the spot. Are ewes very good at defending their young?

The ewes can go in and out of the barn. They normally lamb in the barn. We are near a golf course with a couple ponds. Susquehanna river is about 12 miles away. Eagles around here eat a lot of road kill deer. As far as sheep go, they defend feed with amazing aggression. Not much else. And they have wool for brains.

Went to a co-op meting one Wednesday- saw a fat eagle near the road, eating on a large kill in a dirt field. Five hours later he was still there, next to the carcass. They really are vultures.

I like your comment "they have wool for brains." I had Suffolk sheep for many years and they do a great job of keeping a pasture nice....but I truly believe they "are born looking for a place to die." Lol

I was thrilled the first few times I saw Bald Eagles up here. Then I started seeing them dive at my lambs and started watching them closer. They are pretty much scavengers, although as I said, I've seen them dive at lambs. No doubt in my mind they could take a new born lamb without any problems. I've seen my Pyr cross guard dogs run them out of the pasture too.

I was coming down the road, and I looked in a corn field and saw a bald eagle, and I thought to myself,"ain't that just nicest picture",then I looked closer and saw it sitting on a dead dear, makes ya wonder.
