Very hard to see my Dad unable to do the things he could always do himself and residing in a nursing home was not living for him. At 91 years old he seen farming go from using horses to almost unmanned tractors , boy that was quit a lot to witness and be a part of. He grew up on John Deere equipment starting with a Waterloo Boy , then a Spoker D and so on even farming this year running our JD 8970 tractor, He ran his old JD 9500 combine until we finished on December 27th this past year. January 1 he had a stroke and slowly went downhill passing this past Thursday evening peacefully in his sleep. He started and ran a JD dealership from 1954 until 1998 with only going to grade school. May he rest in peace.

Sorry for your loss. He must have been an active and progressive person who left an impression on many people.

That is quite a life. From working, to gone, in less than a month.
My family also had a Waterloo Boy, and a D, and AR, A, etc, so I'm told. They were all traded off by my time.
My father was born a few years before yours, late in 1923, but passed away before harvest was over in 1992.

Wow, the things he saw, experienced, and participated in. What an amazing adventure life must have been for him! And to be so active up to the end of the 2019 year, very few people that age have that ability. I?m sorry for your loss, remember to focus on the happy memories, and it sounds like there sure are a bunch of them!

My condolences on the loss of the father. He sounds like quite the man, would have loved to have had the chance to visit with him.

Sorry for your loss. My Dad also farmed with a team of horses, first tractor was a Farmall with steel wheels.

So sorry for your loss, but just think of all the good times and it will help a lot. As a man once said, You'll never get over loosing him, but you will get through it

Dave--Sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad...If you look close you might see a tear in the Deere emblems eyes today...RIP Dave's Dad---Tee

He witnessed the mechanical power revolution in agriculture. He not only survived it, he thrived in it. That in its self is about as good as it gets. I am sure there were tough times that he and your family worked through, but there is the glory of him standing next to a half grown crop that will do very well, with you and the rest of the family seeing the pride in his stance. Jim

When we grow up working with our Dad's all through our lives ,,,it's a different kind of attachment than most people share...You will feel him near as you work the rest of your life...

Sorry to hear of your loss will be praying for comfort for you and your family sounds like he was a great example

My sympathies to you and your family. He was fortunate to have lived a good life and pass quickly without a lot of suffering. Praying for you all. Chris
