Changed fuel filters on MF240 Special. Could not get fuel primed. Removed o ring and was able to prime fuel> Used Wix 33160 filters> No fuel would flow with o rings in place> Did I do something wrong?

hi,i could be completely wrong, but I think with the napa/wix filters, you should not put the upper o-ring,at least that's how it is with my mf203 (ad3-152 diesel),I also use wix.just my 2 cents.

Maybe you used the Wix 33166 filter? If so the top O-ring/gasket goes in the groove that is in the filter base housing that the 33166 element rim fits into, No gasket belongs in the groove of the element where the 4 openings are just inside the outer rim. Those openings are where the filtered fuel exits.

thanks...I figured out the problem. O rin has to be there. Got too many o ring on outer ring of filter. Fuel slots in top of filter blocked by extra o ring I installed

You are not alone, that has happened to many, using the Wix/NAPA filters, before and I am sure it will happen to more in the future. Now you know where to suggest they check, to help them. Thanks for letting us know you got it fixed.

The brand of filter is not the deal it is the type of filter. Another words if you get a filter for those bases they all are the same set up. Yes the gasket/o-ring does not go inside of the top rim. I hate those filters also. The glass bottom is so delicate about breakage when tightening back up. We made an aluminum base for them. On our 674. The 574 has spin on filters.
